PROPOSED SELF-GOVERNMENT EDUCATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN ANISHINABEK FIRST NATIONS AND CANADA

For over 20 years the Anishinabek First Nations have been working towards the establishment of the Anishinabek Education System (AES). The Education Agreement and funding arrangements have been negotiated.

The main goals of the Anishinabek Nation Education Agreement are:

  • To achieve Canada’s recognition of the Anishinabek First Nations’ inherent jurisdiction over education
  • To secure reliable and flexible funding for an Anishinabek Education System that will ensure the preservation and ongoing development of the Anishinaabe people.

The negotiations of the Anishinabek Education Agreement are now completed and moving forward to the stage of Ratification.
